CFRP for Shear Strengthening - HORSE Construction

CFRP for Shear Strengthening - HORSE Construction

The use of CFRP to strengthen the diagonal section of reinforced concrete beams can improve the shear capacity of the diagonal section of reinforced concrete beams. From a theoretical point of view, the larger the area of the carbon fiber CFRP pasted on the surface of the concrete beam, the more significant the effect of improving the shear capacity, but it will also increase the cost of reinforcement, which does not meet the economic requirements.

CFRP SHEAR STRENGTHENING

Theoretically speaking, when using CFRP to strengthen beams for shear resistance, in order to minimize the use of CFRP, the reinforcement design should be:

(1) Make the height of the side-bonded CFRP sheet equal to the section height of the reinforced beam, that is, the carbon fiber CFRP sheet should be pasted along the actual height of the beam;

(2) Make the net spacing of the carbon fiber CFRP sheet strips reinforced by the carbon fiber CFRP sheet and the width of a carbon fiber CFRP sheet strip as small as possible.

(3) When other conditions remain unchanged, the smaller the net spacing of the carbon fiber CFRP sheet strips, the greater the ultimate load and the stronger the shear resistance.

(4) With the same amount of carbon fiber CFRP cloth, the reinforcement effect of striped paste is slightly better than that of whole strip paste. That is to say, when the carbon fiber CFRP sheet of the same area is used for reinforcement, reducing the width of the carbon fiber CFRP sheet strip can increase the shearing force borne by the carbon fiber CFRP sheet. The width of a carbon fiber CFRP sheet strip corresponding to the width of a carbon fiber CFRP sheet strip will also be reduced accordingly.
